About Garage Door Opener

Garage door opener is a device which helps in opening and closing the door of the garage. It enables door to open automatically by using a motor.

In order to work, the opener needs power (electricity), input from the remote control, and has to know where it is on its own (the position of the garage). The information obtained from these three things are passed to other devices like controllers which send signals back to garage door opener that tell it when it needs to move or turn.

The main benefit of having a fully automated home with an automatic garage door is convenience. Your door will open in less than 10 seconds from the time you push remote. There is also safety benefit to it. If you are at home and your car is parked outside, the last thing you want to be worrying about is the safety of your family and that of your property. By having a garage door opener, peace of mind can be achieved knowing that one less thing needs to be checked when coming home after a long day at work.

Garage door openers are generally installed on residential homes or garages with living quarters above them. The National Association of Home Builders recommends including an opener as part of new builds or when altering existing properties in order to create more space and convenience for residents.

The size of the garage door opener determines the volume of the garage. As a rule of thumb, it is advised to have one that can open the door to widths in excess of one and eight meters.

Garage door openers are convenient and easy to use. They come in a variety of types and operate on a number of technologies. There are therefore different factors to consider when choosing one over the other. Safety, energy efficiency, power requirements, versatility and lifespan are among those factors.

Safety is ensured by choosing a garage door opener that comes with an anti-collision system. The mechanism should also be able to hold the door in place until you are inside the garage.

Energy efficiency is guaranteed by choosing environmentally friendly products like the solar powered models. They eliminate the use of electricity by using direct sunlight instead.

As far as power requirements go, it is advised to have a motor that can go up to 9100 watts but bear in mind that it will only work when backed up by at least a 20 ampere circuit breaker. Other things to bear in mind are where your opener will be placed and whether or not it will require external maintenance.

The versatility of the garage door opener is a major factor to consider. While most are designed for one purpose and do one thing very well, there are so called smart models that come with features that allow them to be programmed easily. They also come with additional features like remote controls and sensors which allow for opening and closing of doors whilst keeping an eye on the cars outside.

The lifespan of a garage door opener is determined by how often it is used. If you have a garage which gives you access most of the time then it can go for up to ten years without replacement, on the other hand there are models that go out of order after only a few months due to constant use or abuse.

Garage Door Roller

The rollers are shaped like a right-angle (90-degree) with the bottom slightly darker to collect dirt and prevent it from rolling away. This is most important so that the door doesn't jam when it is lowered.

What Is A Garage Door Track ?

The garage door track is a long metal channel ('track') that runs horizontally on the top and bottom of the garage door in order to carry it up and down. Each end of the garage has one end of a 'roller' or 'trolley' attached to it. These are not wheels, but strong metal bars with wheels or roller bearings on either end.

The Two types of Garage Doors

There are two types of garage doors: single-revolving doors and double-revolving doors. The single revolving door will open outwards while the double revolving door will open inwards whilst turning around their own axis.

For single revolving doors, the rollers are positioned at each end of the door about half way up the height of the door. This is so that the door can be pulled up and down by a garage door remote control from either side if necessary.

The double revolving doors have one roller at either end to enable them to rotate inwards when opened.
